How to Wear Converse Shoes Part 2

Dear Diary,

When you say Converse, everybody knows what you’re talking about. No matter the continent, country, language, race, sex, age, or social class. One century ago the Converse Rubber Shoe Company was founded, and now it is as popular as Coca-Cola, Pepsi or McDonalds.

The most famous are the Chuck Taylor All-Star shoes, or “chucks”, as they are usually called, which come in a variety of colors and materials (canvas, leather, suede, vinyl, or even hemp), whether they are high-tops, low-cuts or knee-high versions.
They look great with jeans, long skirts, short skirts, dresses and tights. You can wear them in summer or winter, and, for a personal touch, you can customize them or have fun by lacing them up according to your imagination and personal style.

Here is model Agyness Dean, showing off her Converse shoes:

You can play with colors, flip down the tops (that is if you own a pair of Converse high-tops) and reveal a complementary color, or you can wear the same type of shoe, but in different colors. Some people like to write or draw something on the rubber side, so that the Converse shoes become a part of their personality. I even heard of people who refuse to take them off! Now that doesn’t sound like a very good idea!
The best thing about wearing Converse shoes is that they are comfortable, lightweight and you can wear them with almost anything, whether you’re punk, emo, preppy or whatever you like to be called. They are not expensive, you can buy them online from any country, but you might even find them in your parents’ closet (I always thought my uncle, who recently celebrated his 70th birthday, looked very cool in his beige chucks!).

How to Pull Together a Hippie/Boho Outfit

A modern hippie Pocahontas, as seen by Joseph Altuzarra.

Hippie, boho, bobo chic, hobo-grunge, all these variations on the same theme, make me think of freedom, a nomadic lifestyle and breaking the rules. Even if it means a long and flowing dress with sandals or, even better, bare feet, or if it is skinny jeans tucked into boots, an embroidered tunic or a cardigan, it all says something about you. It tells about your creativity and talent at mixing colors and patterns, or maybe just your desire to be different from others.

You can pull together your bohemian look by layering materials, patterns or colors, wearing an unlimited number of accessories and minimal make-up. Ethnic-inspired earrings, over-sized sunglasses, wooden bracelets and lots of bangles, they are all allowed. Just remember that you have to keep an overall balance and try not to look like a Christmas tree (even if you really want Christmas to come faster)!

Sienna Miller

If you prefer shoes to walking bare feet, go for cowboy boots, uggs, beaded flats, leather sandals or cotton espadrilles. Army boots with a long, flowing dress and a military jacket are a very boho-chic choice, especially if you add a large leather belt, layers of necklaces and long earrings. For a more flower-power touch, add a Pocahontas headband or a floppy hat, and add on your iPod some tunes from the Beatles, Bob Dylan or Jimmy Hendrix.

Marc by Marc Jacobs, Chloe, Missoni, Diane von Furstenberg, Anna Sui, Matthew Williamson and Joseph Altuzarra are a real inspiration for all “bohemians”, with their vintage-inspired collections and their fresh, modern take on hippie style, along with celebrities like Sienna Miller, Kate Moss, Lindsay Lohan, the Olsen twins or Zooey Deschanel.

How to Wear Ruffled Dresses

Dear Diary,

What does Prada, ruffles and yellow have in common? Well, a gorgeous dress that reminds me of the sunny days of summer, cocktails and “La dolce vita”. It is daring, playful and very feminine at the same time.

Ruffled dresses, with the right shoes and jewels, make strong fashion-statements and can be very versatile. Still, one should be very careful when choosing ruffles because they add bulk. So you have to know exactly what you want to hide or what to accentuate!

Here is another example of a yellow ruffled dress, designed by the Australian fashion designer Nicola Finetti:

Yellow ruffled dresses are not only present on catwalks, but also on the red carpet. Here is Demi Moore, wearing an astonishing dress, at the Toronto International Film Festival:

Anne Hathaway, inspired maybe by her role in “The Devil Wears Prada”, is wearing here another yellow Prada dress, only this time the ruffles are missing:

You can see that ruffles really make a difference, especially if you want to stand out in a crowd!

Yellow and black is also a very classy combination, and becomes glamorous when adding some ruffles. But for me, what matters the most is the attitude. You’ve got to show some personality when wearing that Prada dress! On the other hand, wouldn’t just wearing it alone boost your confidence to 100%?

Alyssa B might know the answer, as she added the dress on Avenue7. Here are some of your outfits:

Now, after drawing inspiration from all the outfits created on Avenue7, I can finally go back to my winter clothes and other cold weather activities, like lying in the couch with a cup of tea, thinking that I’ve just had my cocktail and experienced “the sweet life” of a sunny summer day.

xoxo
