Designer of the Week: Emily K

We have a delightful and well thought out interview this week. Emily K, owner of the fashion label seeing starz, joins us from Arkansas, USA. You can really see her style evolving over time (she's been with Avenue7 for a year!) to the chic classy outfits that she makes now. Check some of them out below!

What don’t we kick things off with you telling us about yourself?
My name is really Emily. I'm a 29 year old single mom from Arkansas. I have my bachelor's in psychology and am going to start grad school for a master's in counseling psychology next fall (I want to be a therapist). Music is also my other passion. I love to sing and do so when I get the opportunity. And of course I have a very soft spot in my heart for fashion. I love shopping and putting outfits together and have been doing so since WAY before Avenue7 first started...back before we had a computer at our house...lol. Well.. I work for my dad at his law firm right now. I am getting married and moving to Louisiana hopefully by early next year

How would you describe your sense of style?
I like to be comfortable yet stylish. I love layering my clothes- tanks, vests, sweaters, scarves. I love ballet flats, but I also love a good colorful strappy heel. I love skinnies, but I love flares also. Just depends on my mood. I like big tees with long necklaces and big purses. I love studs, big rings, and dangly earrings. I like simple yet elegant and sexy hair with flowers or some kind of broach or headband.

Tell us a little about what you use Avenue7 for and why?
It lets me express myself...not just my sense of style and what I like as far as fashion is concerned, but my creativity. Since I could walk I've always been interested in putting outfits together. I used to play in my mother's and grandmother's clothes. Avenue7 gives people the chance to show others who they are through these designs. It's like artwork. Avenue7 is the canvas.

Tell us how you go about creating an outfit? Where do you get your inspiration from?
Well, since the competitions started, I get some of my inspiration from others' ideas...such as a designer name, a certain color, a certain occasion. But, sometimes I find one item- like a purse or a really awesome pair of shoes and I create an outfit based around this one item. Or sometimes I just start throwing things on the "board" that I see and like and whatever I end up with until I am satisfied with what I'm looking at.

What are your 3 favourite outfits on Avenue7 and why?
E: I love this because it's truly artistic and very creative. She takes fashion to the next level.

E: I love this outfit b/c it's simple, elegant, and has a splash of color, which makes the beautiful dress stand out.

What fashion trends are cool where you live now?
Well, despite what people might think about Arkansas, we are actually quite fashionable...at least some people...lol. Summer is still in session- latter 90's temperature, so short floral dresses with big belts, skinnies and ballet flats are a pretty popular trend. Uggs have still be extremely popular, so I'm interested what will be fashionable this winter. I'm looking at this magenta peacoat from Alloy right now with some gray skinnies and black knee high flat boots and a long sleeve tee....

How did you come up with the name for your Fashion Label?
I just came up with it...it's not permanent, but until something better pops in my head...it'll do.

Any suggestions for things you would like to see on Avenue7 and shout outs to people?
I would like for there to be more trophies given on comps...it's just cool to look at on your page:) More recognition on the comps...more entries, but you can't make people....honestly there have been so many improvements since I first joined that I can't think of much more I would like to see that what's available now. The PRO price is cheap, and I think it's an awesome way to bring more people to the site.
Oh, and a shout-out to all my peeps! Jesus...ur the man...lol.

Who is your favourite designer? (This question was asked by last week’s featured user JJ!)
My favorite REAL designer I guess would have to be Christian Louboutin. His red sole is a classic that occurred by accident, which became his signature, stands out like Madonna's gap teeth. His shoes are amazing and just are works of art themselves. He states that he wanted to defy all of the rules in shoe-wearing in hopes it would make women feel confident and empowered.

Thanx so much for the opportunity to allow me to answer these questions. I have spend most of my afternoon (at work) pondering over what I would say. These are awesome questions that really made me realize how much I really do love fashion!

Emily K
